“You may not pay anyone to help you with your application, and you may not use generative AI tools (like ChatGPT) as you compose your responses. We use software tools to analyze the admission essays and activity responses of all students. We may rescind the admission offer of any student whose essay is found to have been generated by AI or otherwise plagiarized.”
Read as a full stop, the same conservative reading applied to Brown. BYU grants an explicit review carve-out to PEOPLE ("it is acceptable to have others review your essays prior to submission, the words and ideas must be your own") and pointedly extends no equivalent to AI, while attaching rescission to AI involvement. The ban is worded around composing, so a narrower reading is arguable; we do not take it, because being wrong costs the student their offer. Applies to general first-year and transfer admission, not an honors track.
