BYU's application includes an Essays and Activity Commitment that every applicant agrees to, and its first item is not using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT. The page lets other people review essays for clarity and extends no such allowance to AI, so CollegeEssayPanel reads the commitment as prohibiting AI review, the same conservative reading applied to Brown. The commitment replaced an earlier statement, quoted here until October 2026, that barred generative AI while composing and warned that offers could be rescinded for AI-generated essays; the new wording is broader, not narrower. The commitment's items are a bulleted list, joined above with ellipses. Applies to BYU's general application essays, not an honors track.
