Does Georgetown University allow AI help with college essays?

“Further, the applicant understands that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to complete any portion of the application, including essays, is prohibited.”

Georgetown's first-year application ends with a signed attestation, readable on the public application form, in which every applicant affirms that using AI tools to complete any portion of the application, including essays, is prohibited. It makes no exception for grammar or feedback. Because it is worded around completing the application, a narrower reading (AI that writes) is arguable; CollegeEssayPanel does not take it, for the reason it does not at BYU: the student signs this statement, and being wrong costs them the application. Until October 2026 this attestation was known only from secondary reports and listed here as an unverified caution.
